Our business development programme at BETT helped Cambridge University Press vastly expand their partner network

Our client

Cambridge University Press is the publishing business of the University of Cambridge. Its purpose is to further the university’s objective of advancing learning, knowledge and research.

What they wanted us to do

The client asked Livewire to prepare a business development and networking programme for them at BETT, the world’s leading learning technology event, to stimulate widespread adoption of their exciting new digital resources for GCSE. There were three clear objectives they wanted us to achieve. We had to secure:

  • Meetings with the Department for Education
  • Business development meetings with leading suppliers of hardware
  • Business development meetings with multi-academy trusts

How we did it

Using our experience of the education sector, and what we knew about maximising opportunities at BETT for our clients we:

  • Identified decision-makers from Livewire’s extensive portfolio of industry contacts
  • Demonstrated to Ministers, hardware suppliers and sponsors of multi-academy trusts how a meeting with Cambridge University Press would benefit them

What we achieved for them

Our strategy worked particularly well for Cambridge University Press and we were able to secure:

  • Stand visits by Michael Gove, now former Minister of State for Education and Elizabeth Truss, now former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education and their children. These meetings established new relationships and started an ongoing dialogue
  • Meetings with leading hardware suppliers Samsung, Toshiba and Centerprise whose strong market presence could help Cambridge University Press to further extend its reach into schools
  • A meeting with the Academies Enterprise Trust – one of the UK’s largest multi-academy trusts with responsibility for 74 academies

Dialogue and networking with Ministries of Education from across the globe is a top priority and essential for our business strategy development. Livewire carefully researched and sourced Cambridge University Press an excellent sponsorship opportunity at a closed-shop event for international ministries of education which enabled us to do just that.
